Red Ribbon Week- October 28- November 1
Remember to dress up and take part in Red Ribbon Week. I posted the agenda for each day on an earlier blog post.
This week in reading we will reading many different fiction and realistic fiction books about Pumpkins!
Students will be writing a persuasive essay about the perfect Jack-O-Lantern. They have to persuade me to pick their pumpkin so I will take it home and put it on my front porch.
Vocabulary- Vine, Sprout,Variety, Tendril, Moist, Fragrant, Hollow, Carve
HFW: brought, favorite, might, enough, although, answer, already, possible, either, believe, caught
In spelling, we will work another week on dropping the final /e/ and adding an ending AND adding -er and -est superlative endings to words, when comparing two or more than two.
Examples: happiest, grumpier, smaller, largest, brightest, darker

MONDAY – All things RED, wear RED “Support the Red Ribbon Awareness Campaign:
TUESDAY – Favorite sports team shirt/jersey “Team up against drugs!”
WEDNESDAY – Wear a Halloween costume of your favorite book character “stay smart and scare away drugs!”
THURSDAY – Wear dress code appropriate PJ’s “Stay heathy and have sweet dreams”
FRIDAY – Roughneck attire “Roughneck strong against drugs!”

In Spelling we will be working on Comparative Endings. -er and -est
Er- when you compare two or more things
Example: The black cat is smaller than the orange cat.
Est- when you complete three or more things
Example: Of the three cats, the black one is the largest.

Week of October 7-11
Reading: My Rotten, Red-Headed Older Brother-focus book. This book is realistic fiction (it sounds real but has characters, a setting, a problem/solution and a theme. You can watch the book here! https://youtu.be/ogoEpqfdVaw
(3.1; 3.6A-C; 3.7C; 3.10A,B; 3.3D; 3.8C; 3.8B; 3.8A). This week, we are reviewing skills learned since the beginning of 3rd grade. We are also focusing on character traits (internal and external), as well as changes and relationships between characters. We will also work with synonyms and antonyms.

**Focus on doubling the final consonant when necessary before adding -ed and -ing
Social Studies: Finishing explorers projects. The students will be posting all of these projects/presentations on their Blogs very soon.
