Welcome Back! Important Events Coming Up!

It’s time for January Benchmarks! We can’t wait to see how much progress these amazing kiddos have made since August!

Our Benchmark exams will be:

Thursday, January 9: MATH

Friday, January 10: READING

On these days, students may bring a DRY snack (cereal, crackers, pretzels, etc. ) and a bottle of water. Students are also allowed to have 2-3 pieces of peppermint candy OR 2-3 pieces of gum. These items are put away once the test is over.

Happy December!

We are winding up to the Christmas holiday!  There will be a lot of fun learning in our classroom this week!  We are going to continue our virtual trip around the world to observe different holidays and experiences for our kids.

Monday will be Mexico, Tuesday – Sweden, Wednesday – U.S., Thursday – Grinch Day, Friday – Party Day.

Our Christmas party will be FRIDAY the 20th at 9:00.  If you have signed up to help or bring something, please be looking for a note from me!

Week of November 11-15

This week in reading we will be focussing on narrative nonfiction books. The books we have chosen are books about Pilgrims and the Mayflower. Towards the end of the week, students will be comparing two of the books using a Venn Diagram.

Spelling Words- Last week we worked on Prefixes and how we add those to the beginning of a root word. This week, we have introduced Suffixes. They will be using these in their writing and doing activities with them during stations.

In Social Studies we are learning about the Government and the three branches. Students are creating a Google Slides Presentation, that will be posted to their blog once they are finished.

Monday, a letter went home about conferences. Please read the letter and return it no later than Wednesday, November 13. Mrs. Hamrick and I will be conducting conferences next week on Tuesday, November 19. If you would prefer a phone call or an email please make sure you list that on the sheet.

Thursday, November 14, all fundraiser products will be here. Please make sure you arrange to pick those up if needed.

Friday, November 15, for those students that sold 15 or more items, the fundraiser party bus will be takin those students to Chick Fila in Longview.

Next Thursday, November 21, at 10:45, Mrs. Hamrick’s class and my class will be preforming a Thanksgiving play. We would love for you to join us. The students have been working very hard to memorize their part. Please help them build up their confidence at home and we will work on our part at school, too.

The Start of Red Ribbon Week!

Red Ribbon Week- October 28- November 1

Remember to dress up and take part in Red Ribbon Week. I posted the agenda for each day on an earlier blog post.

This week in reading we will reading many different fiction and realistic fiction books about Pumpkins!

Students will be writing a persuasive essay about the perfect Jack-O-Lantern. They have to persuade me to pick their pumpkin so I will take it home and put it on my front porch.

Vocabulary- Vine, Sprout,Variety, Tendril, Moist, Fragrant, Hollow, Carve

HFW: brought, favorite, might, enough, although, answer, already, possible, either, believe, caught

In spelling, we will work another week on dropping the final /e/ and adding an ending AND adding -er and -est superlative endings to words, when comparing two or more than two.

Examples: happiest, grumpier, smaller, largest, brightest, darker

RED RIBBON WEEK

MONDAY – All things RED, wear RED “Support the Red Ribbon Awareness Campaign:

TUESDAY – Favorite sports team shirt/jersey “Team up against drugs!”

WEDNESDAY – Wear a Halloween costume of your favorite book character “stay smart and scare away drugs!”

THURSDAY – Wear dress code appropriate PJ’s “Stay heathy and have sweet dreams”

FRIDAY – Roughneck attire “Roughneck strong against drugs!”

Week of October 21-25

In Spelling we will be working on Comparative Endings. -er and -est

Er- when you compare two or more things
Example: The black cat is smaller than the orange cat.

Est- when you complete three or more things
Example: Of the three cats, the black one is the largest.

Week of October 7-11

Reading: My Rotten, Red-Headed Older Brother-focus book. This book is realistic fiction (it sounds real but has characters, a setting, a problem/solution and a theme. You can watch the book here! https://youtu.be/ogoEpqfdVaw

(3.1; 3.6A-C; 3.7C; 3.10A,B; 3.3D; 3.8C; 3.8B; 3.8A).  This week, we are reviewing skills learned since the beginning of 3rd grade. We are also focusing on character traits (internal and external), as well as changes and relationships between characters. We will also work with synonyms and antonyms.

Social Studies: Finishing explorers projects. The students will be posting all of these projects/presentations on their Blogs very soon.

Important Reminder: Don’t forget about the FUNDRAISER and the STORYBOOK CHARACTER PARADE (note come home last week).

We are trying to get our classroom project funded on DonorsChoose. If you happen to go to Sonic, please ask for a Limeades for Learning Sticker. Each sticker is worth 2 votes. Our project will be ready in a few days and you will be able to vote once it’s complete. We are trying to get more flexible seating for our classroom.

Week of September 23-27

We had an amazing week of school last week! We have made it through the half way mark for the first 9 weeks. Please look for Progress Reports going home on Thursday.

This week we are going to read a nonfiction story called,”I Love Guinea Pigs”. You can listen to the story here: https://youtu.be/pod6vd7x-W8

Students will be learning about Onomatopoeias, Author’s Purpose, Fact and Opinion, and Nonfiction Text Features.

Our vocabulary words for the week will be found in the story. You can also access these vocabulary words on Quizlet.
